This affinity purified polyclonal antibody detects Alpha Fetoprotein (AFP).

AFP is a glycoprotein produced primarily by the fetal liver. In adults, elevated AFP levels are clinically significant and commonly used as a tumor marker in the diagnosis and monitoring of:

• Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
• Germ cell tumors (especially of the testis and ovary)
• Liver diseases such as cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis, which may predispose to cancer
   

AFP testing is also used in prenatal screening to detect fetal abnormalities such as neural tube defects and Down syndrome.

In oncology, AFP levels are monitored to:

• Assess treatment response
• Detect recurrence
• Guide therapeutic decisions
