“Flagellin (FliC) is the most abundant structural component of bacterial flagella. Encoded by the fliC gene, it is a protein that polymerizes to form the filaments of the bacterial flagella. The flagellar antigen group H7 is one of more than 50 flagellar antigen groups described for Escherichia coli and has received increasing attention because of its possible use in the diagnosis of E. coli O157:H7. The N-terminal and C-terminal portions of FliC are critical for the structure of the flagella and are highly conserved. MECF-55A-15E8 is specific for the region encompassing amino acid residues 146-305 of the FliC protein”.
